Expansion

I bought the domain fosspage.com about three years ago and have been using it for my blog, portfolio, and other projects. But now, I want to expand it!

The Plan

I plan to transform fosspage.com into an open-source tools website to help users live distraction-free lives without sacrificing their social interactions. Here are some of the projects I have planned:

They are named after various retro items.

HourGlass (Android) - An NTFY server for messages, possibly including a calendar.
Pager (Android) - A notification manager built with React Native.
Typewriter - A simple writing tool without any fancy distraction buttons, featuring a vim mode.
PostCard - A Gmail parser that generates summaries and categorizes emails.
YouTube Focus - A CRT-themed tool to help focus while using YouTube.

I have already created a landing page for this, which still needs work. It will also feature a sponsors page where other developers can showcase their tools. Additionally, I have set up a GitHub organization under my account that will host these repositories. The link is here.

Introduction

NextAuth.js is a complete open-source authentication solution for Next.js applications, and it is currently my favorite solution for adding authentication. It doesn’t set up everything like Clerk in 7 minutes but also gives you control over everything and makes it really easy!

It’s specifically designed to work seamlessly with Next.js and Serverless architectures.

Getting Started

Install NextAuth

npm install next-auth

Note -

I will be using the latest version of Next.js 14.0 or above with the app router.

The Journey

I began my calisthenics journey during lockdown, working out inside my house while following online workout tutorials. Initially, I struggled to do even one pull-up. Determined, I trained every day, and within a month, I achieved my first pull-up. Lacking workout buddies, I enlisted my younger brothers as training partners.

After a few months, I transitioned to a gym, where my prior calisthenics training gave me an advantage over typical beginners. Although I enjoyed the weights and evening gym sessions with friends, I missed the fresh air and morning pull-up challenges. Consequently, after a month, I returned to classic calisthenics workouts.

What is Floorp?

Floorp is essentially a fork of Firefox with added customizations and features. It’s a free and open-source project with numerous contributors from Mozilla. You can explore the source code here.

A special thanks to Chris Titus for introducing me to Floorp.

Why not Firefox?

I love Firefox; it’s excellent and the only true competitor for the Chromium-based browser monopoly. If the Floorp Project didn’t exist, I would definitely go back to using Firefox.

RSS stands for (Really Simple Syndication). It is used to distribute frequently updated content on a website. It is an old tool which was developed in 1990s.The goal was to help people receive updates from multiple sites, just like you subscribe to your favorite YouTube channel. RSS feeds were really popular in 2000s, overtime their popularity decreased, with the emergence of social media and other sites that pulls you in a rabbit hole.Still this is a perfect tool for people who want to prioritize work and want to stay away from distractions.
